Before and aftercare for best stain results:
Prepping the skin
Before applying the henna exfoliate and wash the skin to remove any dead skin, oils and lotion.
Warmth is key
Stay warm and toasty during and after henna application. Henna and warmth are best friends – the more the warmth the better the stain. However, whist the paste is still on the skin do not allow it to sweat as the moisture will cause the paste to run.
The longer the better
Keep the paste on for a minimum of 6 hours, overnight is best if possible for longer lasting and deeper colour. You can also apply a sealant such as lemon and sugar mixture to help the henna stick on your skin so it doesn’t crumble.
Scrape don’t wash!!
Once you’re ready to remove the henna, scrape or pick on the henna. Do not wash it off as that will have an affect on the end results. Lather the henna with natural oils – preferably mustard oil, coconut or olive oil to remove the stubborn bits.
Moisturise!!
Keep the skin warm and moisturised for maximum results. Avoid using water as much as possible for 12-24 hours to help the stain develop into a deeper colour. Avoid using petroleum based products such as Vaseline or mineral oils or sunscreen.
The stain will develop from orange to a dark brown/maroon colour over the course of 48 hours. The intensity of the stain will all depend on the aftercare. “
